Columbus is expected to be one of the engines that restarts the economy of Georgia when about 30,000 new residents settle in the West Georgia community by 2011. The transplants from the Armor School at Fort Knox will enjoy the sunny climate and warm and welcoming inhabitants when they relocate to Fort Benning to become part of the Army's Maneuver Center of Excellence.
