Columbus is expected to be one of the engines that restarts the economy of Georgia when about 30,000 new residents settle in the West Georgia community by 2011. The transplants from the Armor School at Fort Knox will enjoy the sunny climate and warm and welcoming inhabitants when they relocate to Fort Benning to become part of the Army’s Maneuver Center of Excellence.
While the “Home of the Infantry” has always provided an economic boost, international insurance giant AFLAC, credit card processor TSYS and other well- known companies are also headquartered in this vibrant and growing community.
